Default Do you enjoy living in America more than the UK?

Or are financial factors/marriage the main reasons why you are living in the States? Was the culture better for you in the UK?

This one should be amusing.

Bet you there'll be a grinding argument about NHS/Insurance within 2 pages.
Fatbrit and Tracy, pistols at dawn.

Failing that, the great Bread and Paxo debate strikes again.

Never mind bread and Paxo. My local supermarket here is the size of the average Tesco or Sainsburys. The number of products they sell in there that are worth eating can be counted on the fingers of one hand.. (Land O'Lakes unsalted butter is OK, Cabot Creameries Sharp Cheddar is excellent. Cape Cod potato chips are pretty good. Oh, and they sell King Arthur flour so we can make bread. That's about it.)

I've only been here since January and so far I prefer the US - I haven't been sick yet though!

Ah, it's the time of month for this one again then eh?

The only possible answer can be:

Some things are better.
Some things are worse.

Very philosophical, me!

I absolutely prefer living here. Mostly I prefer that I don't have to listen to a constant whine about immigrants, taxes, the nanny state, the EU, chavs, the yoof of today etc etc etc.
And I like that I have the chance to get my daughter into a great school, that my husband can work in his field of expertise without having to live in a crappy place, that we can live in a decent sized home without it requiring a 3 hour commute.

I moved here as a result of marriage, however, Yes, I enjoy living in the US more than the UK..

Was the culture better? Different, but not necessarily better.

yes.
The standard of living we can enjoy here means that my husband can be home earlier most days than he could in the UK. We can live in a decent sized house with plenty of space for this kids. The home we had in the UK was rather cramped and wanst part of a community. The house we are building will be part of a community so we can have the kids grow up in an area they can make friends in and that i can also make friends in. Here we can afford for me not to work and we now have the option to have a larger family should we want it.

I miss a few things about the UK:

- no need for a car
- pubs within staggering distance
- going to and playing football (although the way my team have been playing these last few years I'm well shot of 'em)
- proximity of family for the kids

Apart from that, I'm far happier here.

Circumstances have required me to reside in the US. I'll just leave it at that.

So you prefer listening to constant whining about illegal immigrants, taxes, health care, NAFTA, gang violence, teens etc etc etc ...

But, yes - despite all that I very definitely do enjoy living in the US (which is actually only quite a small bit of "The Americas")
