We are going on a skilled work visa, as Kev is a carpenter and me well I am just a lady of leisure ( I wish) Kev has always worked for himself and is looking to hopefully get into some sort of property developing. We are hopefully looking at coming over with a budget between 1.3 and 1.6 million dollars. We would like to be in walking distance to schools, a few shops, cafes with a beach being a bonus but not essential - we would be really grateful to hear from people who have made the move and to share their thoughts and views on both areas as it is a decision which we are finding extremely hard to make. We are looking at maybe coming out to look around early next year.

Thanks for taking the time to read our email and we look forward to hearing from you.

I love Adelaide ( but maybe i'm backward ) I've been here almost v2 years now. We haven't been to Brisbane yet but have had a hol to Melbourne via the ocean road.
Its probably horses for courses so you should do a reccie to both to see which suits YOU better.

Property development? as in UK, doing up a house = property development or as in australia land is very expensive and in severe shortage close to cities, you would need slightly more than a million bucks.

You sound like you could afford the airfares to both places why not visit both, preferably in summer when both places are going right off weather wise, off as in worse time of year, if you can handle then you can probably handle the rest of the year.

I personally would not move to adelaide with teenage kids tho, you would have to see if they liked it.
Thanks for taking the time to email us with your comments - they are all really appreciated.

Made us laugh a little as you said that anything to do with building etc is involves mega red tape, which we are sure that it does. However we have lived and worked in France for the past 7 years and are sure that dealing with authorities that speak English - will be a walk in the park! Dealing with the French authorities has been a nightmare from beginning to end!

We are hoping to get out to visit both areas before we make the big move. Have heard from some friends that Adelaide is not really for teenagers, however we have lived in the middle of no where, so even Adelaide would seem buzzing to our eldest girls.

Thanks again to everyone emailing us, we really appreciate your help.

Hi folks,

Welcome to the forum.

Like yourselves we hope to go to Oz next year and will be bringing roughly the same funds with us, as well as our 4 children. We initially looked at NSW, then Adelaide and now have finally settled on the Mornington Peninsula, just outside Melbourne.

It is very confusing, and for us especially as we have never been to Oz.

Have you applied for your visa yet?

Wishing you all the luck of the Irish,

Crocodileseamus
