Probably more of a symbol of felling trees, Canada's forestry industry is one of the best of the Western world as there are strict rules for re-foresting de-forested areas... god that was a tongue...

Thats odd.. I never tipped bar men/women unless they brought the drinks to our table... if I was at the bar getting the drinks, I'd just pay whatever amount for the drinks plus tax & thats it. And...

Drive throughs imply no 'to the table' service and hence is not necessary to tip... you can do so if you feel you have been given service above and beyond, but it is NOT implied in Noth America.

Thats very true, income tax is one of the major criteria for money lenders as its the only official GOVT statement of income for workers... good point!

Its prefered to be tipped in cash as I think some service persons dont delcare income from tips on taxes & therefore get a break... not sure if its legal or not (probably not) but I rarely ever...

Extreme seasons? Well depending on where in Canada, some get it worse then others. But yeah, winters are long and slushy & coooooold but you get a nice white x-mas most years which is real pretty....

Cross border shopping was a big craze once the Canadian govt introduced the GST federal tax back in (I think!) the late 80's and the strong US dollar certainly helped back then too as economics 101...
