Re: The Real NHS

Unfortunately true, but that doesn't address the problem of those who do have people who should be watching out for them.Or those who could be doing more to make sure they're getting the right...

Re: The Real NHS

I agree. There are bound to be disaster stories, and they shouldn't happen, but it'd need a special study to see how representative any are.

I did wonder with the man who starved to death why the...

Re: The Real NHS

Sorry you're having problems, Dunrovin.

NHS 24 hours should be scrapped. Everyone seems to agree it's little use, because if there's any sort of problem they tell people to go to the A&E and...

Re: The Real NHS

The question is, where is someone to go if they have worrying symptoms in the evening or on weekends? Not talking a runny nose, but a high temperature, severe nausea, a swelling infected wound etc...

Re: The Real NHS

There are good and bad NHS trusts. It's not policy, only incompetence in some places and competence in others. I assume there is some overall rating system we can access, like Ofsted for schools. Was...

Re: The Real NHS

The guy in charge of the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs , Dr. Nutt, got sacked for saying that horse riding was more dangerous than taking ecstasy.
"In January 2009 he published in the...

Re: The Real NHS

I don't think so. The US does? For all residents?

It seems to me that regular colonoscopies for all would be a waste of money in any health care system. Plus, there has to be a risk attached, as...

Re: The Real NHS

As the article says, the problem is not inferior treatment, but that too many people ignore the symptoms of bowel cancer so that when they turn up in A&E, probably with acute anemia, the cancer's...

Re: The Real NHS

Do they do that? I thought it was more a case of whips and shackles.

Of course, perhaps you've known doctors who resort to those....

Re: The Real NHS

I had a little poke around the statistics quoted, because a 98% 5 year survival rate for breast cancer in the US isn't believable.

As best I could tell from official US statistics, that figure is...

Re: The Real NHS

I don't see anything wrong with care assistants as long as they can do the jobs they're trained to do, and don't do ones they aren't, just as I don't have problems with nurses doing jobs that used to...

Re: Third World NHS

Not my experience at all, and I've had some experience recently. Talk about one-sided!

The doctor speaking to the BMA obviously has an ax to grind which comes down to "give us more money." It...

Re: The Real NHS

But the crown would probably be the better treatment, long term. Every filling weakens a tooth, and if it's cracked and eventually splits it probably can't be saved. I don't think it's always that...
