And who has major operations in Africa? These companies aren't stupid, Australia may lose out but BHP won't.

The optimism has been exactly the same in the UK, anyone a year ago would not have predicted this years events. Apparently UK housing was never going to fall - too much demand, too many immigrants...

NZ is in a pretty good state really, recessions are a natural part of the economic cycle.

Have a look at the Baltic Dry Index (BDI), could be some very rough times for the Australian mining sector.
