What exactly did you provide to back up your application, and how many of the 'main duties' were listed on your evidence?

The Temp Work Permit doesn't take long at all - assuming you are a UKC and don't need a medical, you can actually just get one at the airport when you arrive, or alternatively if you do want to apply...
