Machinery works fine when you have the space to spread crops out, but crops in the UK tend to be grown as close together as possible to maximise yield.

The number is actually 310,000 this year, 320,000 next year, and 340,000 in 2020. Totalling 970,000 over 3 years.

Last year, it was 300,000. Not really plucked out of the air, and this year's...

Which makes sense. In certain cultures, families look after their elderly and infirm at home. Sending their loved ones to a nursing home wouldn't be done.

Close enough. What I should have excluded was returning Brits, which takes the immigration numbers down from 572,000 to 493,000...
