For the sake of this argument, what % of 16-18 year old school leavers do you think should reasonably be attending a University*?

*as opposed to a trade school, technical college, polytechnic etc....

I find that really sad... all those wasted years and hopes, and for the vast majority, that "office job" will be typical of their future contributions to society.

It's wrong that employers demand...

When I look at the overall market, I see lots of jobs available for "trained" people, but not so many,...

Then it means that perhaps the nation might regain some respect for skilled trades, technical colleges and vocational qualifications, or even (hush!) apprenticeships or on the job training.
