I own a Spanish registered car, pay insurance and SUMA here for it and will get it ITV'd when it is due, therfore I'm not affected, as jdr, by those rules governing importation, re-registering etc....

Surely, if it wasn't covered by the insurance it is then, ipso facto, an illegal car.

Fully agree with you there jdr, why people want to run around, risking all in an illegal car beats me, just imagine how they would feel if they had a legal car, and were involved in an accident, no...

EXCEPT... A UK registered car would need to be ITV'd to ensure that it's lights etc were correct for the country it is being kept in. This does not apply to cars from any other EU country as thier...

I suspect that as they will ahve proof that thye did start the process withing the time limit, then shouldn't be a problem. The problem is with those who do not, or have no intention of becoming...

Certainly always was just 30 days after registering on the Padron from what I was told.

If you spend more than 183 days in any year here in Spain, then you are classed as a Spanish resident, both by the Spanish and UK authorities, it doesn't have to be 183 consecutive days.

Urban Myth I'm afraid, you have to be able to PROVE that your car hasn't been in Spain more than the 6 months, just crossing a border will not suffice as there is not proof of that as passports etc...

Sorry but that is not the case, Once the car has been here for 6 months and a day it is illegal, it's nothing to do with how long YOU are here, but the car. Doesn't matter whether it is taxed and...

Don't think that says any different to what has already been said. If you register on the padron, then you have only 30 days, if not registered, then the 6 months applies.

Fully in agreement, sometimes I feel like writing on the car in permanent marker, THIS CAR IS ILLEGAL IN SPAIN there are even a couple on our urbanisation. Saw one with a notice from local police on...
