Don't know about the 'trades' if experience or qualifications are both needed - you'll only find out the reality by talking to employers I suspect.

Regarding your 2nd question, I guess it depends...

Just as you would in the UK - put together a CV (resume), write a covering letter, follow up with phone call. As said before, find a company willing to help with PNP and you could be here in a few...
