Re: the Scottish independence issue

I'm sure you can come up with some Scottish immigration controls for sea and air as easily as I can. I imagine there would be a UK citizen line with no control.

Re: the Scottish independence issue

SNP say there won't be any border controls on the Scottish side. The UK Government hasn't said anything firm on the matter.

I asked SNP on what it's immigration policy would be for those with UK...

Re: the Scottish independence issue

Looks like Westminster told the bankers that it would be a good time to make some comments and ramp up the NO arguments. The bankers and the politicians...in fact the whole power establishment....are...

Re: the Scottish independence issue

How much of non-Scots support of "No" derives from true concern for the future of Scotland and how much is based on insecurity and worry that it's just another example that the world is changing and...

Re: the Scottish independence issue

Agreed, the situation isn't the same.....but the condescending attitudes are similar.

Re: the Scottish independence issue

I see Scottish Independence as an opportunity to go back to something approaching social democracy. Reversing the privatization and lob sided economics of the Thatcher and New Labour years will take...

Re: the Scottish independence issue

Those are good positions, unfortunately the "No" campaign has been too negative. When the Yes side says they can be successful the No's should agree and then offer reasons why Scotland will be even...

Re: the Scottish independence issue

If I was Scottish and heard all the negative comments from the "No" camp about Scotland's ability to be successful on it's own I'd vote "Yes" out of spite.
Those that think themselves more powerful...

Re: the Scottish independence issue

I don't see any reason why Scotland couldn't be an economic success outside of the UK. It's got 5M people in a bigger land mass than many other European countries. It's got strong agriculture and...

Re: the Scottish independence issue

What about the Head of State. The SNP says it will keep the Queen and her heirs as the heads of state.......Ibut there's an alternative......what about separating the Crowns as well and putting a...

Re: the Scottish independence issue

Catalonia actually has a "treaty" document that formalizes it's autonomous status, but obviously the Basques want something similar.

Re: the Scottish independence issue

That gives the rUK cover. I get the feeling that rUK would oppose Scotland joining the EU out of spite.....that's the usual reaction when the powerful lose...that's if the UK stays in the EU. Ironic...

Re: the Scottish independence issue

Nope Catalonia....Barcelona and Madrid haven't forgotten the Spanish Civil War and most people from around Barcelona would call themselves Catalan rather than Spanish. Just as with Scotland there is...

Re: the Scottish independence issue

From what I've read both campaigns have been using political and economic arguments rather than cultural or nationalistic. I think that's a good thing, but with Scotland definitely left of center and...

Re: the Scottish independence issue

I hope Scotland votes "YES". It will give me a left of center social democracy with a free at point of service NHS that mostly speaks English to move back to.
rUK without Scotland will become more...

Re: the Scottish independence issue

That's like saying an abusive spouse should have a say over whether to divorce.

Re: the Scottish independence issue

Consider a marriage.....it only takes one person to want the divorce to make it happen. There's no way a union can be preserved if one party doesn't want it to continue.
