One state in which I had to deal with probate had minimum percentage of assets set as fee lawyer would get- supposedly to control probate costs , but for any estate that involved a house etc ends up...

Good point. Besides cost, just the time involved in probate is quite bothersome.

Coeur d'Alene, Hayden Lake, even Sandpoint all great places in the summer, but I remember driving through Oregon some nice places as well.

I lived in north Idaho for a while near Canadian border. Quite a few people did exactly that, North Idaho in the late spring, summer and early fall, then Arizona when the snow hit.
