Front-loaders use less than half the amount of water. You also need to take into account the power cost of heating less than half the amount of water into your calculations.

Seems to be a bit manufacturer dependent. And the sales folks don't seem to understand it or realise its significance either. Whirlpool call it a "Built-In Water Heater". Nobody seems to blaze it...

Always go for the heater. It's usually an option.

Bought a Kenmore HE3T at Mrs. FB's insistence couple of years back on 0% financing from Sears. Worked flawlessly ever since. Would recommend you get a model that can boil the water -- then you don't...
