I agree. More information suggests that Boeing got fed up with having 787s around waiting and needed to boost year end delivery figures. Seems to be down to Qatar and them liking a Qsuite that needed...

You may be correct but 133 aircraft are involved here equating to about $30k for each deliberate act. The idea behind QA procedures is that they're designed to prevent issues like this.

I have to say that when I read what it was and what it did I imagined a component that was a little more robust than that.

Politics and money won't allow it to happen, but who can argue that the MAX doesn't qualify for a full new airframe recertification....
