Re: Off to the states... am i mad?

I would agree thats the confounding thing? Now I'm totally confused:huh: Redwing's 2 weeks or 14 days in my book = nearly 3 weeks of business days which is pretty good after one year. but I don't...

Re: Off to the states... am i mad?

Again can you clarify - because that is a wonderful obfuscation often purveyed by US companies. Do you mean 2 weeks after one year as in 14 days or 10 days etc etc. By the way what do you do for the...

Re: Off to the states... am i mad?

Ok got it. I have worked under all those systems, euro, PTO, standard USA vacation. Never really had a problem although I would prefer more days off just like most people I suspect;)

I think it...

Re: Off to the states... am i mad?

I'm not sure if we are agreeing here. Are people supposed to be grateful for a possible 9 vacation days with less than one year service, building to a possible maximum of 21 after 15 years of work...

Re: Off to the states... am i mad?

Thanks for that. I think it proves my point nicely if you bother to read past the first table which has the potential to be misleading. Paid Time Off or PTO has been embraced by US employers because...

Re: Off to the states... am i mad?

Agree. Which is why I suggested to the original poster to look at all angles. I'm just trying to point out the oft forgotten pitfalls which can quickly occur in the US and would not normally be a...

Re: Off to the states... am i mad?

Assimilated. Congratulations. But I imagine that 4 weeks vacation was earned over a long career. Lets be very very honest here most US employees in private industry have 10 days off if they are...

Re: Off to the states... am i mad?

Absolutely you have to go there first. The NHS thing is very clear - lots on many threads here. You cannot pay to retain your NHS status. So possibly a misunderstanding or dare I say 'soft soap.'

Re: Off to the states... am i mad?

Agree with all the above. Re the it must be really bad in Pittsburgh. I was just offering it as a potential consideration not an all or nothing comment.

In the same tone as the above quote. I am...

Re: Off to the states... am i mad?

If your not unhappy I would strongly consider/staying in my rocking chair. At the least research those issues I and others have highlighted. Big cheap houses in Pittsburgh are exactly that. As...

Re: Off to the states... am i mad?

Department of the Houet Province of Burkina.
I have never been there

Nor do I own a domain name in the Faroe Islands?

Re: Off to the states... am i mad?

Not trying to offend just make the original poster aware of some oft forgotten issues. There is a gaping chasm between Brit think and Ameri think.

By 3 weeks do you mean 15 days? And after 5...

Re: Off to the states... am i mad?

If you are happy where you are don't do it. From 16 years of experience I was just on my soapbox on this very topic the other day. IMHO most people who succeed in the US are those who wanted to come...
