1 week = 7 days
2 weeks = 14 days, etc.
I got 1 week the first year.

To my mind a week (work wise) is 5 days. So one week vacation is one work week of paid vacation

I would agree thats the confounding thing? Now I'm totally confused Redwing's 2 weeks or 14 days in my book = nearly 3 weeks of business days which is pretty good after one year. but I don't think that's the norm in the US in my experience you get 10 days = two weeks. Some people are even forced to account for normal rest days. I won't get excited to fast as I said the average seems to be fairly low compared to elsewhere. Its just another factor to be weighed.

It's crazy that people know anyone who has worked for the same place for more than 10-15 years though, I think that's great...though they probably only put up with it for the benefits rather than anything else at that point.

So getting 7 days would be fab, adding in a weekend, that's almost two weeks away from the shackles

You don't take any days off, that's what you do.
Some companies let you accrue vacation as you go and take it as you earn it, but that doesn't amount to much more than a day or two before the end of the first year anyway. Some don't let you take any of it until the one year mark.

He did go there for the benefits, the money was crap when he first started but the benefits were great. That was the days of $5 co-pays and no deductibles The money has improved, he has been to lots of training schools and earned licenses and promotion and hopefully will eventually have a fairly good pension
