I believe you. But I haven't yet seen much advertised as "free" that's without some ancillary commitment. Often, adding up to more than that which you'd willingly pay for. And with no restrictions...

Oh wow. The world's first philanthropic bank. No doubt it's the volume of "free" accounts that pays for it all.

I got a "free" iPhone for simply signing a 2-year contract with a mobile provider....

Santander has one of the highest rates of complaints (in the UK anyway). I have a Santander account in the UK, and it works OK for anything within the UK, but a soon as you want to do anything...

You walk in, and ask for a non-resident account. If they refuse, go to the next bank. Simples.

Nothing is " free" there is no such thing as a "free" bank account (despite what they promote)....

Most all Spanish banks will gladly open a "non resident" account. Most only need a passport (no utility bills or anything else). Usually takes about 15 minutes. LaCaixa is the most popular in Spain,...
