Thanks for sharing your experience chocciecake. Could you perhaps lower your living costs by moving to some other city in Australia? I have never been to Sydney, but from what I read on various posts...

Should I have a preference from among the shire suburbs such as Miranda, Gymea, Engadine, Sylvania, Woronora, Cronulla and others? Are they all more or less similar with respect to my needs i.e....

Hi freebo, initially I need to keep my costs down and will look to renting a small 2 bed unit in the Sutherland Shire area. This might be doable at around $450 per week. At this stage, I am not...

I was told Australian job market is quite dry during Dec-Feb season. So, we plan on arriving in March/April. Why can't the Shire make you stay beyond Feb?

Initially, I will look to keep our costs down and go for a small 2 bed apartment within an hours commute to CBD. Depending on where I find a job (if at all) and how much it pays, we will look to more...

Thanks Tubbs20z, its comforting to know that we might be able to find something at around $450/w. Initially, my wife will not be working, so we may not qualify for the 50% tax rebate.

Interesting comparison! Thanks for sharing this. when the exchange rate returns to a more decent level of A$2 to a pound, it will look more like this:

Milk: 2 Litres Own Brand

Thanks mecheng. I was looking to live within an hour's commute to CBD. Sutherland Shire seems to fit the bill. Bundling landphone and internet is an excellent idea. TPG looks good!
