I didn't see it that way. The point that Williams was making was that it was another movie about black people needing white people to "save" them. The way the movie was slanted was not exactly...

Well if you read the Texas Monthly article (I think you have to join though) you'll find that a white male writer from Texas came to a similar conclusion. The movie wasn't even about the boy...
