Re: Brits In Chicago

I'm way up in the nosebleeds by the WI border. Can't speek for anyone else

Re: Brits In Chicago

They will :)

Only one year in the 6 I've been here we didn't have at least snow on the ground at Christmas, that was 2006. I remember playing in the back garden with my son and nephew on...

Re: Brits In Chicago

We got 22" of snow in a single storm in February - that's what Mr Emjoy was referring to

That isn't typical though for a single snowfall, but 12-15" is not uncommon and 6-9" is regular. You...

Re: Brits In Chicago

Back when I was a runner at work, I'd have a regular cheque pick up in Wheaton, and I'd drive through Glen Ellyn along Rt.38 just off the motorway, both are very nice towns.

There are also plenty...

Re: Brits In Chicago

Elgin's not a bad choice, actually. It's a big, quite self contained city but has good access to Chicago and the airports. It is actually quite a nice city in its own right as well.

Plus, it's...

Re: Brits In Chicago

12 seems to be a popular one for coaches and lorries. Probably because it avoids the toll roads but gets you close to I-43 and I-94 in Wisconsin. Lorries, of course, because the weigh station by...

Re: Brits In Chicago

Do you spend any time driving on Rt.12 near the IL/WI border at all? If so I've probably driven past you a bunch of times. I work on 12, and I see coaches going by all the time and I always wonder...

Re: Brits In Chicago

Though I don't live there, I have been through Buffalo Grove quite a lot, it is nice in that general area down there and is quite well placed for access to the city, airport and all that good stuff....

Re: Brits In Chicago

Finding a proper pub is unlikely. I've only been to one that I would ever consider making my local if I ever lived in that particular town, but again that was in Libertyville, about 40 miles out of...

Re: Brits In Chicago

Evanston is supposed to be pretty nice by all accounts. I haven't got the $$$ to live there

I don't get out to see any live music much outside of our gigs. We're 59 miles outside the city...

Re: Brits In Chicago

I do (see my sig) but this particular gig was for the acoustic duo I have with the lead singer of the band.

We're based in N Suburbs though (Lake County in and around Libertyville). Haven't...

Re: Brits In Chicago

Nice to hear we are helping keep your anxiety down

This Brit isn't a hockey fan though. On top of that I lost out on $100.00 earlier in the year because we had a gig cancelled because...

Re: Brits In Chicago

Oh aye, I forgot about that. Back in Blighty we used to have turkey and ham, and mini sausages and roast potatoes (among other things). We have the turkey at Thanksgiving and I can't seem to be...

Re: Brits In Chicago

A lot of women do work - can't tell you what it is like though because I'm a bloke :D. The work culture out here sucks compared to the UK though, especially for an ex civil servant like me. I had...

Re: Brits In Chicago

Lindenhurst is pretty close to me, we're in Fox Lake. Good schools if a little to jock friendly for my liking  From what I hear, Stevenson is a very good district. None are a patch on NI...

Re: Brits In Chicago

Can't mind the name - was at least 2 years ago I bought it. Too tight to buy more! Both the bacon and the sossies were good though, made a perfect bacon buttie, and bangers and mash that made my...

Re: Brits In Chicago

I've found back bacon and sossies (marketed as 'Irish' but made in Chicago) in a little knick-knack store in Richmond where I work (right up by WI border on Rt.12). A bit pricey though, and I don't...

Re: Brits In Chicago

Probably not too far from me then by the looks of it!

Once the ba is a bit older, there's plenty of family stuff in Gurnee (6 flags in the summer and then there's the mall for the girls) and the...
