Re: Advice for future B2 retirement visa for Florida

We get a fair number of questions about B-2's, and visitor visas, so I am not sure what you think you're missing. .... We might have gone off at a few tangents, but only ones I think are relevant...

Re: Advice for future B2 retirement visa for Florida

I am well aware, however both here on BE, in the real world, any attempt to point out that the NHS service and funding model is unsustainable immediately leads to accusations of "bashing the NHS"....

Re: Advice for future B2 retirement visa for Florida

So far, so good, ....

Paying NI has nothing to do with being eligible for NHS treatment. I am almost fully paid up for NI purposes, but have no eligibility for NHS treatment, because I am not a...

Re: Advice for future B2 retirement visa for Florida

Yes, it is good, but if you're only in your mid 50's and in good health maybe it is true. .... But look into what the policy defines as a preexisting condition, as I will guarantee they'll try to...

Re: Advice for future B2 retirement visa for Florida

Sorry, but that sounds implausible. I would ask explicitly if that covers you for 6 months in Florida ..... and not believe the answer unless they can show you supporting wording in the actual policy...

Re: Advice for future B2 retirement visa for Florida

That is a good tip for minor medical needs; minute clinics are attached to larger/ busier pharmacies.

If you need something more than a minute clinic can provide, or when the pharmacy is closed,...

Re: Advice for future B2 retirement visa for Florida

I seem to recall seeing an "annual" policy previously, but it was designed for frequent travelers, not permanent gypsies, so didn't cover 365 days of travel, only maybe 90 days travel per 365 days of...

Re: Advice for future B2 retirement visa for Florida

And generally you need an SSN to apply for health insurance in the US.

As you (OP) won't be eligible for any subsidy based on low income or for being retired, hypothetically, if you can find an...

Re: Advice for future B2 retirement visa for Florida

Then there's FBAR reporting, tax on PEPs and ISAs, punitive tax on unit trusts, etc. The US taxation system is really something that should be avoided unless absolutely possible, and stumbling...

Re: Advice for future B2 retirement visa for Florida

You don't even want to try that, as once you spend 183 days in the US in any one calendar year, you're on the hook for US income tax, and the IRS is going to get their claws in you.

Re: Advice for future B2 retirement visa for Florida

Who gave you that advice?

While it is imperative that you don't say that you want to "retire in the US/ Florida", the reality is that it is known, and often discussed here on BE, that it can be...

Re: Advice for future B2 retirement visa for Florida
