Not if you have a break lease clause in your contract, which we do. 2 months notice is all we are required to give and if you only hand over the cheques at the start of each month they have nothing...

By 'things' i largely mean rent, which when we first signed up to move here was going to take the majority of our income (given that my company doens't pay rent on our behalf). Between then and now...
