Re: Canada or UK more expensive for....

What do we do?

I'd say the logical thing would be to compare the...

Re: Canada or UK more expensive for....

By the way, posting electric bills was just one example of many common expenses. I think it's helpful and interesting.

What you're saying is that nobody should post what things actually cost,...

Re: Canada or UK more expensive for....

That sounds really high, although didn't you say you live on a farm? Maybe it costs more for them to deliver the electricity because of the distance from the main power grid?

BC Hydro has a basic...

Re: Canada or UK more expensive for....

They charge you for the electricity AND to deliver it? Is that $60 a month?

Re: Canada or UK more expensive for....

...and that's great for that someone. Do you think that applies to everyone? Isn't it better to post objective information for everyone, instead of confusing subjective information that only...

Re: Canada or UK more expensive for....

Who said a bill is subjective?

I said that people posting whether they think things are more or less expensive or cheap is what's subjective. Especially when their opinion is based on their own...

Re: Canada or UK more expensive for....

...and yet on the last page you wrote "Hydro is expensive here - much more than in England"

See how you just might be confusing people? :)

Re: Canada or UK more expensive for....

Tia's way is realistic for Tia. Not you. Not me. Not anyone else.

Are we trying to help other people or not? Because, I'm trying to help others learn what things actually cost in Canada. ...

Re: Canada or UK more expensive for....

Because they don't know what they're talking about, right? Sounds like you're coyly trying to suggest that I don't know what I'm talking about because you think I'm fresh off the boat. Cute. ;)

Re: Canada or UK more expensive for....

Your buying power is only relevant to you though. Whatever your financial situation is, that's your financial situation. It doesn't apply to anyone but you.

You're posting subjective information...

Re: Canada or UK more expensive for....

I think that qualifying statement is wrong. The exchange rate does matter. Ignore earnings comparisons when talking about "expensive" and "cheaper"
People should post prices of things.

It's...

Re: Canada or UK more expensive for....

What were you paying in England per kWh? I paid 12p per kWh in England.

Electricity in BC costs $0.0615 per kWh + GST (6%) = $0.06519 per kWh

A quick currency conversion says that $0.06519 CDN...

Re: Canada or UK more expensive for....

Re: langley to chilliwack?

Chilliwack is too small and too far away from Vancouver for my taste.

Chilliwack is good if you want to be a corn farmer though.

Re: Where in Greater Vancouver?

Unfortunately, suburbia isn't exactly known for being the most exciting place. Unless you enjoy shopping malls, highways, strip malls, and big box stores.

If it was me, I would just rent an...

I also get extra cable instead of just basic cable which costs me an...

A quick currency conversion says that $0.99 CDN = £0.50 British Pounds per litre

Re: Short term rentals Vancouver, anyone got a basement (suite!)?

I've actually rented 2 different short-term furnished apartments in Vancouver. There are a few companies that specialize in this, as opposed to the typical long-term unfurnished rentals.

I found...
