Wow, I really don't know what to say to this tone of answers, except that I think 497 applied before March 31, 2004, may allow a student to apply for PR later than April 1, 2004 making my points...

497 can be used for obtaining permission to work also isn't it? Can she not apply for 497 unless her visa is expiring? In her case, 497 is needed to let her lodge a PR app w/o the ACS assessment...
