Yes it is a good idea to give an address of a friend or family member so they know you're not begging on the streets! look at all the accomodation sites - like craigslist etc and see if you can get...

hi from Hilary I have been ,living in Vancouver BC for two years and still waiting! Having spoken to a few expats here it seems that just sending your Uk Passport with latest address is just fine...
