Yes, I managed to finally get around to it in June in Aljezur. We were hoping to have the ceremony on the beach but it didn't work out due to complications with the authorities and in the end...

I believe the centre of the Alentejo does have extreme heat and cold (relative to other places in PT eg Algarve )which is why not many people live there.

Ours was about 500 euros in total for everything for 2. Most of that cost was the notary. Our solicitor was very reasonable (and solicitors are usually much cheaper than lawyers).

I completely agree with you. I don't see why they feel the need at all. It would make me very cross if the UK did this. There was talk a few years of go of changing some words to be 'American' e.g....
