Default where to buy

Having read most of the threads in this forum, I am now wondering where to buy in PT. we were looking at inland algarve, probably Silves area, which i still like, but have also concidered the lower alentejo and the west coast up as far as Sines.Would want to be within about an hours drive of Portimao. Has anyone got any suggestions.

Hi there

I think it really depends on what sort of person you are and what type of lifestyle you are hoping to achieve. Also, if you will be working.

We are on the very West of the Algarve which is beautiful, but some people feel it is too quiet for them.

this is very true, and part of the reason for spreading our wings and looking further a field. just not to sure how isolated these other area's are. at the moment we have only had brief visits there.
don't really want just wlid boar, snakes and lizard for neighbours, don't want that much of the good life

we looked all over Portugal for a nice place to live, we spent 6 months on the Algarve (far east) but it wasnt for us, we now live in Central Portugal near Tomar, been here almost 5 years and love it here, just the right mix. Plenty to do, some lovely cities and towns, lots of history, lots of great food. scenery is stunning, fresh water lakes, (castelo do Bode lake is 40 miles long!) and we have big cities like Lisbon one hours drive away, airport less than one hour, a lot of people that have never been to central portugal, think that its remote and isolated, its not, from my house (and we live in the country) 10 mins in 3 directions we have towns, Tomar, Abrantes and Torres Novas, so we have hundreds of resturants, museums, niteclubs,(for the young uns) multi plexºs, bars, suppermarkets, shopping malls etc etc.
its not all donkeys and candle light opp north you know...
Good luck on your search for the perfect location for your home, Portugal offers a diverse mix, so there is something for everyone.

The only places that stood out for us on the Algarve were Alvor, Luz, Silves and maybe Lagos. But this is only based on spending 7 days there last April.

Why do you need to be near Portimao?
