1. Hardly any mortgage companies accept 5% deposit paid by vendor. They used to if the seller was a builder. Some, like the Abbey, didn't want the lawyer to advise them if up to 5% incentives were...

I don't think that's quite the case. The email said you would still get your money back if the conditional green card was not issued. It said the USCIS wouldn't allow Am Life to give it back to you...

As far as I was aware banks such as HBOS, Abbey...any bank in the UK only guarantees the sum of £35k per investor. You are covered by the parent company only in so far as that company is solvent...

I think they have raised the RFE. I got an email from AmLife saying that an RFE had been issued (15.4.08). It was on an early investor's case but it was a generic enquiry about the whole project...

I also heard that American Life had received certain requests from USCIS for further information and were confident they could deal promptly with those requests. I guess you'll soon see.

I used Moneycorp when I bought a U.S. house and they were pretty good. Also don't necessarily take the first rate they give you. I got one rate from them- 'phoned my own bank who then bettered it....
