Re: which is better Melbourne or Sydney

My theory is Sydney feels busier because it's got more tourists. I drive to Melbourne CBD every day which is relatively easy and stress free. Its significantly quieter in Melbourne than Sydney.

Re: which is better Melbourne or Sydney

We've just returned from a second trip to Sydney and totally agree. I retract all comments I've made in the past on Sydney. Melbourne is way better . Sydney is like a warmer London. If...

Re: which is better Melbourne or Sydney

We live in Melbourne and have visited Sydney.

IMO Melbourne CBD (include St Kilda and surrounding suburbs) is more exciting. It never feels crowded and the tram system is great. The people are...

Re: What makes people give up UK life?

I think it's unique to PM. I've talked to other people in Elwood and down in Bayside and it's not as windy. We live on the 10th floor right on the water's edge. It was idyllic when we first...

Re: What makes people give up UK life?

That could have been written by me. Our lives have been far from conventional. If it wasn't for kids we'd be ping ponging back and forth each year to get the best of both worlds. We feel we should...

Re: What makes people give up UK life?

It's the wind.....most days in the winter we'll be blown over in Port Melbourne. It make it feel more like 5 degrees rather than 14 degrees. We like to ride our bikes but it's too windy most days....

Re: What makes people give up UK life?

Ditto.....we've had the same experience. If I knew then what I know now we wouldn't have bothered coming. It's ok but not worth the expense. For the money it cost, we could have moved into our...

Re: Moving to UK - if's & maybe's - am I dreaming?

Reception is the same as prep in Oz not kindergarten. Year 1 is the same in both places.

Both my kids have ongoing medical problems. At first I thought the medical care was better here but it's...

Re: Thought's on Farnham anyone???

We lived in Elvetham heath in Fleet. We loved it. It's has a fantastic community feel. Most of the people there are from different parts of the UK and overseas so it's easy to make friends. It's...

Re: Thought's on Farnham anyone???

We lived in Fleet too. We loved Farnham and would have lived there but found a lovely new housing estate in Fleet which swayed us a few years ago. We like it so much that, although we're in Oz,...

Re: Considering a move back to the UK

Spain is part of the EU so you'll have not problem getting medical care. On the flip side, we have medical cards to use in Spain (or any part of the EU) which is the EU equivalent of having an NHS...

Re: Melbourne?

Lots of interesting points by everyone.

Here's my 2 cents worth.

Melbourne - Sporting capital....one difference to London is you can actually get tickets to anything you want to. We could...

Re: Flying with a baby, advice please?

We were made to open and taste every sealed jar we had. I pointed out that it would all go off but they didnt' care in London. This was 2 years ago and they may be a bit more relaxed about it now....

Re: Flying with a baby, advice please?

We flew with our son to Australia when he was 6 months old. He was a good size and only just fitted in the basinette. So if your baby is big he/she may not fit in well. It was quite small and he...

Hi Steve

We're in the same boat. My hubby is in IT Project Management (it's a buoyant market BTW) working for ANZ bank and I'm an accountant working for Telstra. We have to live really close to...

I've abandoned that one as there were too much snipeing going on especially from the guys surprisingly. I'm sticking to Britvics from now on. Poms in Oz isn't bad. A few people there moving to...

Re: The Melbourne thread

Just wanted to say Hi.

Usually I lurk on this website as some of the posters are quite scary. This seems like a nice thread especially as I recognise a lot of people from Britvics. Hello Buzzy,...

Re: People in England... returnees and yet to go's.

I'm new to this website and this is the first thread I've read. I'm a ping ponger. I grew up in Merseyside during the 80s. It was a terrible place to be at that time (glad it's improved a lot now)....
