Re: Play group for Anglophone children in Lago Maggiore area

Hi Babsey, Thanks for your interest. We're at the chitchat end of the scale, although I do try to do some themed activities to help with vocabulary. Having said that, there's real interest for group...

Play group for Anglophone children in Lago Maggiore area

Hi all -- it's been a long time! I thought I'd let everybody know that we've started a play group for English-speaking children in Cannobio, on Lago Maggiore. We meet at the Oratorio di Cannobio...

Re: Group for anglophone children - looking for ideas

That sounds great - I wonder whether I'll find so many English speakers in this neck of the woods! Thanks for replying. L

Re: Group for anglophone children - looking for ideas

That's interesting - how does it work? Do you meet in each other's houses? How many children are there?

Re: Group for anglophone children - looking for ideas

That's really interesting - every time I've thought about it I've been getting hung up on my (in)abilities as a teacher and the time it would take to organise language-related activities - perhaps,...

Group for anglophone children - looking for ideas

I'm thinking of starting a group for children who speak English (and their doting parents) in the western Lago Maggiore area. It would be nice to include both native and non-native speakers, given...

Re: Anybody with experience of two-centre living?

Thanks for these, Lorna - the website is very useful. I can see that the home schooling thing isn't to be taken lightly.

Another idea...if I were to put the children into Montessori schools, which...

Re: Anybody with experience of two-centre living?

Thanks for this. The international schools are another obvious alternative, but we would have to be enrolled in two. Do you know whether their teaching schedules correspond term by term? The worry is...

Anybody with experience of two-centre living?

Re: Looking to move to Alps

You might want to look at Lago Maggiore, which, although touristy in summer also has a strong life independent of the tourist industry and so doesn't die in winter. I'm on the west side of the lake...

Re: Bi-lingual kids

I'd like to add something that hasn't yet been mentioned (I'm English in a predominantly German-Italian environment and the kids are trilingual). It's important, I understand to allow the child...

Re: Expert in privacy law?

Many thanks for this. As long as we don't have to go to court during our holiday! No but seriously, the guy who is suing us is doing it not so much out of having been damaged or being out of pocket...

Re: Bi-lingual kids

Yes, the fear is always that the minority language will become passive - the child will understand but will reply in the majority language. This is where you will need to be strong and insist that...

Re: Building permission

I'd agree with all the advice here - if you want to make your window bigger you probably need at the least to advise the Comune and normally you need to submit plans and get permission. A good place...

Expert in privacy law?

Does anyone know of an expert in privacy law as it works here in Italy. We are being sued over an article written for a magazine published by the local Comune and would appreciate any advice on how...

Re: Bi-lingual kids

My children are trilingual. My son, now 3 and a half, was late starting to talk English his mother tongue, but he's now fluent. Entering Italian-speaking scuola materna was a bit of a thing for him,...

Re: The weather in the South

Mind you, I guess that when you average it out over the year, with the central heating running over just three months it starts to look a bit more reasonable...Nice place by the way! L

Re: How can I pay taxes?

I'd say you should talk to an accountant. You should, I think, be getting proper documentation that shows your taxes are being dealt with. Sounds a bit dodgy to me. And think more carefully about the...
