Re: Bringing disabled sister to NZ?

Wow, I suspected it might be difficult but as you say it sounds just about impossible. Thanks for your reply.
I won't give up on the idea entirely yet but will have realistic expectations.

Bringing disabled sister to NZ?

Navigating NZ immigration site I end up going in circles until it tells me to speak to an immigration consultant. Happy to do that but I thought I'd ask here first.

I'm a New Zealand citizen, been...

Re: Update after 14+ years, UK Trip

Thanks mate and the same to you.

It really does make you re-assess everything, the unexpected end of your marriage. For me over time I've realised it really wasn't so unexpected.
But it does take...

Re: Update after 14+ years, UK Trip

Thanks all for your comments. It's interesting how going back brings a lot of old memories and thoughts to the fore and makes you contemplate.
Finally made it home to Wellington last night.
The...

Update after 14+ years, UK Trip

Bit of an update for the new decade. Things have changed rather a lot for me in the last year.
November 2018 marked 13 years in New Zealand, and the end of my marriage of nearly 15 years. 2019 has...

Re: Considering a move to lifestyle block

This place ticks a lot of boxes apart from one - it's too remote! :D

Re: Considering a move to lifestyle block

I'm starting to think that looking for somewhere to move to with a house already there would be a much less stressful option.
I like the idea of building but is it really worth the stress?

Re: Considering a move to lifestyle block

Wow that's a lot to think about, thanks so much for the info.
We're still in the thinking stages and might talk ourselves out of it. But it is a very appealing idea.

Considering a move to lifestyle block

A visit to some friends who have just moved from Cannons Creek to Carterton, and a couple of hours spend in their parents' paddock helping them chop wood, has got us both thinking about moving over...

Re: shipping cars

I hear this a lot but it wasn't the case with mine. Maybe because it was 18 months old and I apparently don't use the brakes (finally changed the rears at 10 years old and 95,000km)

Re: Still getting the guilt trips

Yeah that's one of the big issues. I got away with going negative on my leave because I started a new job after the trip was booked, but I need to work until about November just to get to zero...

Re: Still getting the guilt trips

We've been back three times but not for about seven years.

So yeah it's hard.

The Disney trip was amazing, and great timing as my daughter is seven, so she's tall enough for all of the rides...

Re: Still getting the guilt trips

You make good points. They have only ever been out of the UK twice, 50 years ago and 30 years ago.

And they're retired.
There is the added complication of my 46 year-old sister who they look...

International Arrival to New Zealand

We just got back from a two week trip the the U.S. and as we walked into Auckland airport there was the wooden gateway with the Maori carvings and a recorded waiata playing, followed by a corridor of...

Re: Why did you move?

We came to New Zealand in 2002 on a three week campervan tour of the North Island.
We liked it.
We kept talking about how it would be a good place to live.
We realised we'd regret not doing it....

Re: Moving to New Zealand - Wellington

We love Wellington, been here 12 years now.
For me personally the weather isn't an issue. It's just weather, and we have stunning days year-round. The weather rarely stays the same for long anyway.

Re: Shipping a car and which company

Personally I wouldn't bother shipping over a Golf, there are loads here and prices are reasonable.
I brought my nearly new car over in 2005 and I'm glad I did because I'd had it from new and...

Re: Life in Wellington?

We love Wellington! Been here nearly 12 years now. I work in IT too.
Auckland just didn't appeal to us but Wellington has a smaller footprint and much nicer feel to it, in my opinion.

This must...
