There's a small import shop in Whity Umeda, another in Takatsuki (between Osaka and Kyoto) and there used to be one or two in Kyoto, I believe.

You'll need a sponsor to get a working visa, and the application process will probably take a few weeks. Many language schools will sponsor you, but will probably not want to offer you a contract for...

400000/month should be fine to live on.

I live not too far from Kobe and pay about 100000/month rent for a nice 2 bedroomed flat. That leaves 300000 which is about 1500 quid.
That should be fine...
