Re: My EHIC card is about to expire

I don't know what you need as a PT resident, but note that the UK EHIC is now called a UK GHIC

Re: Lagos to Porto. Car or Train?

Yes, the Metro is a good option. I took it from the airport to Sao Bento station. It took 45 minutes and required a line change. Bit was very easy.
Put your Porto destination into Google Maps or...

Re: Lagos to Porto. Car or Train?

I found a driving cost calculator which came up with a cost estimate of 270 EUR round trip for fuel and tolls.
From CP, I got a return cost of about 125 EUR for 2nd class seats for both of you, and...

Re: Lagos to Porto. Car or Train?

I've driven from Lisbon Airport to the Algarve. Once out of Lisbon, it's an easy, but dull, drive.
Between Lisbon and Porto the roads get a bit more busy.
The tolls do add up quickly.

My...

Re: Stairs on arrival at Faro airport

I'm surprised they don't sell a step-free add-on optional charge! ;)

Re: Uk Passports at Faro

Have you - or anyone else - tried taking the Metro to Oriente. YouTube videos make it look relatively easy ... but perhaps not if you have bags and crutches.

Re: Uk Passports at Faro

I can't speak for Stansted, but we breezed through Heathrow, and the others reported no delays at Gatwick or Heathrow on their respective arrivals.

Re: Uk Passports at Faro

We had guests leaving on the 18th (Weds) and 22nd (Sun), both reporting no queue at passport control.
We left on 27th (Fri) and had 10-15 mins at security, but no queue at eGates or staffed booths....

TV Aerial and Satellite Dish Removal

Later this year I'll be repainting the house, and I'm thinking of removing the TV aerial and satellite dish while I'm up there, as they haven't been used in years, now that we have fibre internet and...

Re: Uk Passports at Faro

I can't speak to the residency question, or the exit question (will be able to answer on Wednesday), but I can confirm that the eGates were working for UK visitors when I arrived on Friday 6th June.

Re: Faro Airport - Passport Control

I flew to FAO during June, Oct and Nov. For our exit trips:
- Jun, not open
- Oct, only 2 or 3 gates were in use, and people were having such trouble with them (we watched as we worked our way...

Re: airport delays - faro.

I expected it would greatly increase processing time on arrival, due to fingerprints and photos. On the way out, since everything is stored electronically - and passport stamps won't be required - I...

Re: airport delays - faro.

Hi,

CA, US, UK etc. would all be considered "third country" visitors and go through the "all other passports" queue ... i.e., non-EU.
I've had it take me anywhere from 10-60 minutes on arrival to...

Re: airport delays - faro.

Agreed. I forget when they were installed, but we've flown into Faro 2-3 times per year for the last 7 years, and this was only the second time the entry gates were open, and the first time the exit...

Re: airport delays - faro.

It sounds like a luck of the draw.

I landed in Faro on Friday 31st May (~19:30), and queued for less than 10 minutes. EU passengers were sent to their own set of eGates, non-EU passengers were...

Re: Meo!!

As the poster mentioned Firestick and TV, I produced estimates for HD viewing. Per the link I included, standard def would be about 0.5 GB per hour, and 4K would be about 16 GB per hour.

Re: Meo!!

According https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/how-much-data-does-streaming-video-use/ an hour of streaming HD video would use 2-3 GB of data.
So, 2 hours per day works out to 120-180 GB per month. ....

Re: Meo!!

What were you paying for your MEO contract and how much data were you using. Is the data only for you, are there others to consider?

The cost of other options could depend on how much data you...

Re: Call/SMS only eSIM

Thanks for the suggestion. I had not come across Uzo in my searches. At first glance, this seems to be what I'm after. I will give it a go on my next trip. Thanks!

Re: Call/SMS only eSIM

I missed these two lines the first time around. Thank you for the suggestion, but Holafly is on the pricy side for what I need.
- my UK data is portable, so I don't need a PT data plan.
- I will...

Thanks for the summary. As the OP, can I request that the debate over SIM/eSIM come to an end, and we focus on the primary point of my original question:

Re: Call/SMS only eSIM

Thanks GrahamF. In that case, maybe I'll stop trying to be eSIM-clever, and I'll just dig out an old dumb phone and do likewise.

Re: Call/SMS only eSIM

I do have MEO for internet, so a VoIP number is an option for calling, but I don't think that gives me an SMS option, for things like delivery notification messages. But maybe that's a sufficient...
