Re: Does my ideal Argarve property exist ?

My dad is 82 and he's actually in good health however he isn't coping too well with being on his own since mum passed away so I don't like leaving him on his own too much. He's never been one for...

Re: Does my ideal Argarve property exist ?

I haven't looked into the Portugese regulations on classic cars yet, there are quite a few threads on the subject of car importation on here covering this in detail. I was thinking more from a...

Re: Does my ideal Argarve property exist ?

Yes it does sound feasible doesn't it ? (although the Wolseley would take forever to get there, I have an old Golf estate I can use). The only issue is my dad, I don't think he'd want to come and I...

Re: Does my ideal Argarve property exist ?

 Nothing extravagant I'm afraid. A 1969 Mini Cooper (owned for 28 years), 1967 Wolseley 1100, 1973 BMW E3, 1998 Lotus Elise (owned from new) and 1989 Mini 30 (owned for 26 years).
There...

Re: Does my ideal Argarve property exist ?

Indeed my brother having the apartment is a bonus. Seeing as it lies empty for many months, I'd be doing him a favour looking after it right ?. I'd just need to ensure I switch off from "holiday"...

Re: Does my ideal Argarve property exist ?

Re: Does my ideal Argarve property exist ?

All good points, thanks. What about repeat prescriptions ?. I have some med's that I have to take every day, I'm not sure if I can stock up six months worth here or would I be able to get them over...

Re: Does my ideal Argarve property exist ?

That's something I hadn't considered actually and it certainly sounds like the simplest way of having a base while searching for the best area/property. I already have a bike stashed at my brothers...

Re: Does my ideal Argarve property exist ?

Actually, my brother doesn't rent out his apartment so I could use that as a base for exploring properties. I've never done this when visiting before as I always want to spend my time on the bike or...

Re: Does my ideal Argarve property exist ?

Thanks that's a sensible approach I hadn't considered. This is why it's worthwhile gathering opinions, there are always several ways to look at something like this, I'll give this some thought.

Re: Does my ideal Argarve property exist ?

Thanks, just the sort of advice I'm looking for. Searching online has thrown up some houses with large basement garages but they're in towns and I prefer something more remote. It's a start anyway,...

Re: Does my ideal Argarve property exist ?

Very sorry to hear that but it does emphasise the fragility of life and what can happen. Putting things off will only lead to regrets later on.

Re: Does my ideal Argarve property exist ?

Yes I will eventually use an estate agent however I'm initially just looking for comments that hopefully will give me the confidence to take the next step. All comments are welcome so thanks for...

Re: Does my ideal Argarve property exist ?

I suppose a separate workshop nearby would work, although I'd be a bit concerned about security. A small house with land to build on would maybe be a better option. It's a pity about the importation...

Re: Does my ideal Argarve property exist ?

Thanks. Indeed my carbon bikes are the only extravagance in my life, but they will last many years barring accidents and a few component changes. I can fully understand having to work to support a...

Does my ideal Argarve property exist ?

I thought I'd canvass the opinions of the large number of forum members who have resided in the Algarve for some time, and have been through the property search process and therefore hopefully will...

Re: Running Classic Cars In Portugal

Sounds interesting. Would you be able to pass on any details of the property mentioned, or perhaps put me in touch with your neighbour ?.
Thanks.

Re: Running Classic Cars In Portugal

Re: Running Classic Cars In Portugal

I have a 69 Mini Cooper that I've owned for nearly 30 years. It's fully restored and I have a lot of sentimental attachment to it so wherever I go it will be coming with me. I also have other cars...

Re: Running Classic Cars In Portugal

I haven't really searched in detail yet. My only knowledge is from staying at my brothers apartment in Praia da Falesia each year for about five years. My passions are road cycling and classic cars....

Re: Running Classic Cars In Portugal

Cheers for that. I think I'll reprioritise my efforts into the more important aspects of moving first. I don't think the cars will be a show stopper. Finding a house I can afford with enough garage...

Re: Running Classic Cars In Portugal

Can I ask how do you go about finding an agent to handle this type of transaction ?. Presumably it is wise to have one dealing with a lot of other issues related to moving, residency, buying property...

Re: Running Classic Cars In Portugal

Thanks again, much appreciated. I'll dig into it in more detail. There are many more important questions regarding the move, typical of me to look into the cars first !!

Re: Running Classic Cars In Portugal

I have a couple, a 1969 Mini Cooper and a 1973 BMW 2500. I haven't moved to the Algarve yet, but when I do I don't want to part with the cars that I've owned for so long, unless the costs are...
