Re: British bank accounts for expats

If you can refrain from accusing others here of 'self- righteousness', of 'not thinking before answering', accusing me of insinuating you are doing something illegal in you banking affairs and...

Re: British bank accounts for expats

In the interests of bringing this thread back to advice for those who may suffer from some banks closing their accounts, allow me to summarise your contributions:
1 All newspapers, left, centre and...

Re: Driving through France for work

I was stopped twice in my car during the first lock down, once locally on the way to the supermarket and once coming off the peage near Narbonne when the travel restrictions had been eased to...

Re: Driving through France for work

I hadn't seen this. Without trying to be pedantic (and possibly failing) I thought that leaving UK wasn't illegal under covid regs as such, but traveling to your point of departure was, unless you...

Re: British bank accounts for expats

That must explain the instructions I got from a meeting at my local tax office after failing to fill in the forms correctly. I was told to simply write a nominal 5 euro in the space for bank...

Re: British bank accounts for expats

Wow, I had no idea that you would take it that way. You were wondering why some banks were going to close accounts after brexit and I responded based on what I'd read, especially on the Which?...

Re: British bank accounts for expats

From all I 've read it simply comes down to the address you have registered with the bank, which should be your primary residence. If your primary residence is in Europe and you haven't given the...

Re: Bank?

As far as I am aware only Britline will allow you to open an account using a UK address, but I could be wrong. They ask for all the things you would expect concerning proof of identity, your finances...

Re: Strap yourselves down for further lockdown

We've got plenty of proof we live in France, though no titres de sejour since we have only just applied. In the event of no specific answers, which I suspect will be the case, I think we'll go for...

Re: Strap yourselves down for further lockdown

Around the 18th November. Assuming anyone is flying and there is no more information by the time we book the tickets we could just risk being stopped, but then claiming back the costs of the tickets...

Re: Strap yourselves down for further lockdown

I thought our biggest problem in coming home to France, anticipating that there would be a lockdown, would be the availability of flights or ferries and whether to get a covid test before or at the...

Sorry, something weird happened with the highlighting. I meant to highlight the last sentence.

Re: Strap yourselves down for further lockdown

This makes sense, but I can't imagine how it would work. I've tried to find some relevant info on the internet, but failed. We are planning/hoping to fly to Toulouse via Paris and then train to...

Re: Strap yourselves down for further lockdown

I'm by far the least technically minded, but I could fill in the attestation on my mobile phone and download it to show anyone if necessary. It was identical to the paper version and would even...

Re: Strap yourselves down for further lockdown

Yes, that's what I hoped. Thankfully I scanned the documents we needed to apply for our titres de sejour when last in France knowing we'd be applying from UK when it came online so I can print off a...

Re: Strap yourselves down for further lockdown

I can only hope that as during the last lockdown we'll be able to return if we can prove we live in France. We're stuck in UK, probably until the end of November, but are desperate to get home,...

Re: On-line applications for Titres de Séjour

I didn't even think about fees for the TdS. They certainly didn't ask for any as part of the online application. Does anyone know if there are any costs?

Re: On-line applications for Titres de Séjour

Yes, the first address box is for the number and the second for the road. The English version didn't make sense so I went back to the French one. Use capitals throughout and it should all work. I now...

Re: On-line applications for Titres de Séjour

And again, be warned. It says your given names only have to start with a capital letter, but it rejected them until I put them in all capitals.

Re: On-line applications for Titres de Séjour

Damn, just spotted I should have been using capital letters for much of the info. Be warned anyone who hasn't applied yet and is as unobservant as me.

Re: On-line applications for Titres de Séjour

It's still saying my surname and given names are invalid as is London. Also it showed a gateway error when moving to one of the pages then sorted itself and worked when I tried again. I assume it's...

Re: On-line applications for Titres de Séjour

I'm running into trouble on the website, maybe it's just inundated, but it's saying my name is invalid. First just my surname and 'London' as the issuing authority for my passport so I changed it to...

Re: Opening a French bank account

Just to be clear, Britline ask for exactly the same documents and proofs that any bank asks for. The ease for us was that we could use our UK documents to open the account before we came to France....
