I just wanted to update you all with my license exchange experience. I walked in with nothing but my passport and UK drivers license at the drive test Hamilton branch. I was greeted...

Re: Driving years of experience - exchanging UK to Canadian driving licence

I was under the impression that the reason for providing proof of driving experience is for insurance purposes - or to at least have it on record somewhere within the Canadian drivers databases...

Re: Driving years of experience - exchanging UK to Canadian driving licence

Re: Am I over-judging Canada?

Thank you all for your responses and encouraging words. I realise being here for a month isn't enough to make a fair judgement, especially when comparing it with Manchester instead of for example...

Am I over-judging Canada?

I was in my second year of university the first time I visited Canada in the summer. I remember going back home to Manchester and telling my parents how much I love the country. This feeling stayed...

Re: Cost of living and where to live in Toronto

I'm not very familiar with the system in Canada - I'm assuming that what will be my salary is from the host institution itself. Does this mean that if I am awarded funding from CIHR that 50% of it...

Re: Cost of living and where to live in Toronto

What university or insitution are you at, if you don't mind me asking? I spoke to quite a few postdocs in Toronto prior to accepting the offer who gave me the numbers I quoted. Only few postdocs...

Re: Cost of living and where to live in Toronto

Unfortunately, education has little to no value these days. $36k is the average income for a postdoc. I was offered $40k initially - it went up to $45k after negotiating

Re: Cost of living and where to live in Toronto

Thanks for your reply! I'm still trying to understand the difference between an apartment and condominium lol. So I guess I should just accept that 60% of my salary will be going on rental and public...

Re: Cost of living and where to live in Toronto

Thanks, that's really helpful. Do you have any idea if there are any areas I should avoid, as I'll be living on my own?

Re: Cost of living and where to live in Toronto

I'll be honest, I've been working towards getting a job or gaining the attention of employers for about 2 years. I came to the conclusion that the only way around getting a job is to literally go out...
