Re: Accountant moving to canada!

I am not an accountant but come across them a lot in my line of work. In NS, at least, there are fully CPA qualified accountants and then people who are book keepers, some of whom call themselves...

Re: Cost of Living

If you are considering Nova Scotia it has also become fairly outrageous. We are considering a move to Ontario and have noted that the rentals are on a par in places like Guelph and London with...

PR Card Renewal Timescale

Just for info, in case it is useful to anyone, my PR card renewal was received on December 14th 2023 and the new one mailed to me January 15th 2024.

I couldn't get the photo to upload on the...

Re: Shocking Deprivation and Homelessness in Canada

We have started to see tents spring up all around the centre of Halifax, sadly. No level of government, of any party, seems to be willing to take this on... seems to be a closed eyes fingers in ears...

Re: Home 10 years!!

Good to hear. I am in Nova Scotia as well and I have never really settled. In common with many places, I guess, things have gone downhill in NS over the past few years, but to such an extent that one...

Re: Anyone find the work environment odd in Canada?

Given the size of the country I am hesitant to say that - I simply don't know. But in Nova Scotia it is absolutely appalling how widespread and ingrained such attitudes are.

Re: Video from an angry immigrant on why not to move to Canada

Fairly level headed piece and seen within its specific context, i.e. of immigrating to Canada, hard to argue with. It is irrelevant if it is better, worse, or the same in th UK or OZ - what is it...

Re: Anyone find the work environment odd in Canada?

I see you are in Halifax. I have a pretty decent work life balance (nowhere near as good as the UK mind) but what I have found strange about workplaces here is both the commitment to mediocrity and...

Re: looking for some east coast advice

Might be worth looking at Cape Breton, although the drive to the international airport would be longer than 2 hours. I think up around Sydney may have the natural attributes you are looking for, and...

Re: FA cup final in Halifax

Durty Nellys, where all the unwashed Liverpool fans go, generally show matches. I am sure the FA Cup will be on.

Re: Work culture

I have worked for 3 different firms and it can be quite toxic. I think it is because a lot of people get into jobs based on who they know. They have no business being there on the basis of...

Re: East vs West

Not quite sure what you are after. Houses prices here are still nuts and you can quite often end up with a bit of a money pit, if some of the chit chat I hear is anything to go by. As for travel to...

Re: Pierre Poilievre

Those are assertions. Trudeau enacted the Emergencies Act.... you cannot seriously think PP would be worse than that when restricting personal freedoms. Anyways, time to take my own advice and knock...

Re: Pierre Poilievre

Trump, Trump Trump, eh? A few people I know have spouted similar assertions without any verifiable evidence to back them up. Trudeau has your number.

Anyways, happy thanksgiving to you.

Re: Pierre Poilievre

What is to be scared of? And what is the evidence for it? Are you not more scared of someone who invoked the emergencies act and froze peoples' bank accounts? Surely you are aware that the governing...

Re: Pierre Poilievre

Well at least you answered a direct question.

I agree that politicians are corupt but what Trudeau does is fling mud on social issues, instead of governing. Like I said, when asked about...

Re: Pierre Poilievre

On what score is he worse, I am genuinely curious?

I just watched some of the recent question period where PP was challenging the government on inflation over the cost of Thanksgiving dinner....

Re: Pierre Poilievre

You are wasting your time arguing on here if some of the remarkable comments are anything to go by. I am still learning about Poilevre and his platform, but one thing is mightily clear: black face,...

Re: Pierre Poilievre

Not many examples of his "utter tosh" being laid out on here. Certainly not enough to conclude "**** him".

Re: Pierre Poilievre

What utter tosh? I don't know that much about him yet but, apart from the Bitcoin thing, he seems to have a fairly reasoned position on most things. Certainly Trudeau and Freeland appeared to have...

Re: EXCHANGE RATE

Tongue in cheek, my old mucker. Doesn't matter what party they are from, they are all p*ss poor and shouldn't be near the levers of power. No idea how we get genuinely intelligent people in though.

Re: EXCHANGE RATE

Bring back Boris. One hardly knows what to say about that p*sh Truss and Kwarteng cooked up. If Starmer can't score plenty of goals now, he never will.

Re: Canada's Tropical Storm

It was quite a storm. Where I live only had a few downed trees and, thankfully, we never lost power. Internet service is out at home. Centre of Halifax, though, seems to have taken a bit of a...
