Re: Moving goods Halifax NS to Cambridge

We used a company called AMJ. Their NS branch, or at least HRM branch, was in Dartmouth. We didn't have loads of stuff but there was some furniture. $4500 plus about $700 for insurance. I can't...

Re: Moving back to UK but sick with nerves

I moved back from Nova Scotia in April this year and all I can say is so far so very very good. I did make the move after securing a job - not sure how I would have felt about it just jumping in...

Re: Driving license exchange

In case it is useful to anyone, I sent my application and NS licence off, they got it Wednesday 12th and it just arrived this morning (21st June). Not bad, although I will give NS props on this....

Re: Transportation of Cat from Halifax to Geordieland

Yes. We sent the GB certificate through to add him to the TOR. Mind you, they emailed me, in reply to the email I sent with the certificate attached, asking me to send the certificate to add him to...

Re: Alberta vs Nova Scotia

If you can do your jobs remotely I would keep them as wages will not be as good in NS. Your taxes will be quite a bit higher and I am not sure the cost of living won't be higher too. Rent or property...

Re: Permanent return to UK after 3 years in USA

Just watch the new legislation coming in about moving a tenant out to repossess. Still a ways away from being on the books but the notice period increases from 2 to 4 months, and I believe that is...

Re: Driving license exchange

I have just sent my application in and DVLA were pretty insistent that I had to enclose my NS licence.

Re: Shipping belongings to U.K

We just shipped some stuff from Halifax. It was pared down to 300 cubic feet in a shared container and came in at just under $6k with insurance.

Transportation of Cat from Halifax to Geordieland

Some info for anyone looking to transport their cat, or pet, from Nova Scotia to the UK.

We used Petsgo as our agent. They have a Facebook profile and they are superb. Patti is the owner and knows...

Re: Choosing NS to settle down - any advice would be appreciated!

I will, in the best possible way, disagree with you there. LIke you, we have a great family doctor. I know nothing of the hospitals down in LIverpool area - sounds like you are fortunate indeed. But...

Re: Choosing NS to settle down - any advice would be appreciated!

My sister in law moved to Victoria last year and says the health system is crumbling there too, for what it is worth. The problem in Canada, and certainly in NS, is they won't entertain the idea of...

Re: Choosing NS to settle down - any advice would be appreciated!

I live in Halifax so I can give you some observations.

Firstly, Nova Scotia is beautiful. If you like beaches and hiking etc it is pretty good. Not so much if you are into skiing etc. Halifax in...

Re: British mortgage advisor interested in moving to Canada

I can give you some insight from the career point of view. As far as I can tell, from living in Nova Scotia, there is nothing like the mortgage advisor role you have in the UK. I worked at one of the...

Re: Advice on job hunting NOC 11102 (financial advisor)

I am afraid I won't be as useful to you as others on here - I got PR because I am married to a Canadian.

That said, unless you have many difficult circumstances, I think you should be able to...

Re: Advice on job hunting NOC 11102 (financial advisor)

Depends what you are into. Halifax is a great spot and definitely becoming more of a city than the sleepy town it was when I first came here in 2001. It has, and it is a regular topic of...

Re: Advice on job hunting NOC 11102 (financial advisor)

Mate, if you have a successful UK financial advisory firm, do not come here. I was in a similar position, I am very good at what I do, and have struggled to make headway over here. I am not sure if...

Re: The next election

The lot of them are juveniles. Name calling is pathetic behaviour.

And, once again, Jagmeet Singh, now supporting the budget after his performative time to consider it, begs the question: what are...

I have to confess I was not expecting a reasonable answer. So many stupid people attach the "Trump" label to anyone who happens to be conservative.... but he is, of course, only the second tier after...

Re: Accountant moving to canada!

I am not an accountant but come across them a lot in my line of work. In NS, at least, there are fully CPA qualified accountants and then people who are book keepers, some of whom call themselves...
