Another question that's just occurred to me -

I'm aware that the processing time for a CR-1 visa can be up to about ten months but during that time am I still able to visit the States for short...

I don't own a home or indeed a car anymore but I could definitely get a letter from work stating that I'm on leave and due back on whatever the date happens to be - good tip.
