The fiancé visa is for 3 months from what has been read, does this mean that we would have to be married within the 3 months in order for myself to stay? (including the process of marriage visa)

Girlfriend lives in Michigan. Looking to see what sort of visa is best. We know about the marriage visa but because of the area suffering from the auto industry is it even worth trying to find a job...
