Re: Experiences at US Embassy in London?

I've been to a few of them over the years:

Hong Kong: Minimal wait times and (at the time in 2001) a very straightforward experience.

London: Post 2003 a bit of a cattle processing experience,...

:goodpost:

Thanks for your reply, I appreciate the objective nature of the post.

Coincidentally, during my last trip to the consulate in Jo'burg, I was chatting to a woman of Indian heritage...

Re: Intending Immigrant 214(b)...

Dragging this post up from the depths to relay something that happened over the weekend.

Quite amusing really, I didn't realise at all how this subject had affected my subconscious mind, until...

Re: Will my ESTA/VWP be denied?

Well that may well be one way to look at it of course.

I wasn't permanently in RSA and after travel to around 60 countries by now, I've always returned to the UK.

I consider the balance of...

Re: Will my ESTA/VWP be denied?

My denial story wasn't the main point.

It was the part about the the assumption of being given any opportunity of presenting evidence to support strong ties to your home country.

I wasn't...

Re: Will my ESTA/VWP be denied?

One of the great advantages to living in a "free country", such as the UK, is the ability to be able to (generally) travel to other parts of the world.

As I was consulting in South Africa at the...

Re: Will my ESTA/VWP be denied?

One of the problems of demonstrating sufficient ties to the UK is whether or not the consular officer will even look at anything you bring to support evidence of strong ties.

I have a 214b refusal...

Re: USA non-immigrant visa problems

From my experience, it's really pot luck at the Consulate.

I had years of what were essentially very friendly and cordial "rubber stamp" interviews in London then moving to "persona non grata"...

Re: E2 visa. No dual intent so why do people think we're going to stay?

I think it will all depend on your experience of living in the USA and whether or not your benchmark outlook is above or below your likely USA lifestyle.

It's a big place with very varied...

Re: Arrested but kicked out before sentencing, help please

I think I'd let sleeping dogs lie.

I wouldn't even consider putting myself at risk of being involved with the US justice system...

Re: As a retired Brit, can I live in the US, with UK state pension as income?

Always considered Canada as a more open minded America.

I've previously lived in Alberta and spent time in Ontario. Only problem is the remarkably short summers.

As already mentioned, even if...

Re: As a retired Brit, can I live in the US, with UK state pension as income?

Even if there isn't a reciprocal agreement in place, it'll still be much cheaper than US medical policies, I imagine.

The general cost of living in the USA has gone through the roof, I'm sure...

Re: As a retired Brit, can I live in the US, with UK state pension as income?

Never actually flown in a Chinook.

Been in one, on multiple occasions, ready for take off, only to be told to "de-bus" and that we would be "tabbing it" to our final destination instead, usually...

Re: As a retired Brit, can I live in the US, with UK state pension as income?

Last time I was at the US Embassy in London (April 2016) there was a retired chap who had a holiday home in Florida.

He was there to renew his B1/B2 visa which allowed him to stay for 6 months...

Re: To move or not to move

I spent quite a bit of time living and working in Florida, when I initially moved there (Lakeland) in 2001, I found the standard of driving terrible.
Discussing this subject with colleagues they...

Re: Considering Moving - Need Visa Opinion

In another thread, Pulaski and I have discussed what we think you need to earn to make moving to the USA worthwhile.

If you are just considering a move to the USA for a complete change in...

Re: L1B interview on Wednesday any advice?

That may well have been the case for Natasha as well. I only saw her once I got through the main doors and into the building.

Re: L1B interview on Wednesday any advice?

Have to say, that during all the times I attended the London Embassy for a work based Visa it was all much ado about nothing.

Generally speaking, there was only one or two generic questions and...

Re: What are my chances of getting an Tourist Visa after my ESTA was revoked?

Fair points.

The mistake, as a I see it, is the belief that you might actually be able/allowed to demonstrate ties.

I agree with everything you say, it's basically down to how the CO feels...

Re: What are my chances of getting an Tourist Visa after my ESTA was revoked?

I'm glad I made you laugh. At least that's a positive outcome.

Unless there's an undercurrent of jealousy lingering in there, I don't recall any mention of what I actually do, to relate to the...

Re: What are my chances of getting an Tourist Visa after my ESTA was revoked?

"The record in the computer" is the facts . . . or at least some of them . . .

You are not a US Citizen. The immigration officers do not have an obligation to admit you, nor are they obliged to...

Re: What are my chances of getting an Tourist Visa after my ESTA was revoked?

It's crystal clear. I knew from the minute I was "detained" it was going to be a complete disaster from my side of things.

Re: What are my chances of getting an Tourist Visa after my ESTA was revoked?

There was no option to discuss my son in the UK.

The conversation is basically directed by the CO.
