Re: considering job offer !!

Yes, men work part-time too. But there is this little thing called statistics. For Dutch women part-time work is the norm. Very few men work part-time by comparison. And the few men I know that work...

Re: considering job offer !!

Working two days a week does sound like a walk in the park...especially when having a baby is a choice, which she made herself actually as that is not what he wanted.

On top of only working two...

Re: considering job offer !!

Nah Dutch women take the cake on this one by far! Just look up the statistics about the number of women working part-time in NL (and hardly in high-earning jobs), it's close to 80%, and the ones that...

Re: considering job offer !!

I second what has been said by the other poster. I am leaving soon, had to wait 5 years due to my (non-EU) circumstances. I will soon, fingers x, get EU permanent residence and plan on moving to...

Just as an example, the Netherlands taxes savings:

"There is a flat tax on the total value of the savings and investments of 1.2% per year. It is nominally part of the income tax, as a 30% tax on...

Re: warmest and driest city in the Netherlands?

Hi Phillp1, the time in NL is not wasted time! If you stay at least 5 years, you become eligible to apply for EU permanent resident (long-term resident). In NL this is called the status EU langdurig...

Re: Been here 4 months and strugglinh

I mentioned emasculated OR unempowered, alternative options. I never said he needs to 'man up'.

And, implying the OP should become a stay-at-home mom to address the situation is incredibly...

Re: Been here 4 months and strugglinh

The last thing I wanted as a 14 yo would have been to spend more time with my mother! And that is simply the natural order of things for a teenager.

If he is feeling down due to bullying, then...

Re: warmest and driest city in the Netherlands?

Oh no I didn't intend to link the suicide rates to the weather, but just as a fact that casts doubt on the statement that everything is better in NL.

The overcrowdedness is also one of the top ten...

Re: warmest and driest city in the Netherlands?

Hi Philip1, I just wanted to say I know the feeling when you still can't really see the light at the end of the tunnel! I was in that situation about 3 years in. Now things have all fallen into place...

Re: warmest and driest city in the Netherlands?

I am glad you have found a country you are happy in. Generally, the country can't really do without being the 3rd worst tax haven (Oxfam's latest report) and the many immigrants that come willing to...

Re: warmest and driest city in the Netherlands?

Indeed, for me it has been a well-thought out exit strategy, and some key events will happen in the next of couple of months as part of that - these are fixed dates that cannot be changed and I...

Thanks Szeged.

I would be taking a 4-week course and might stay for some time after that. I am interested to hear about what people experienced in these cities in terms of the atmosphere - so the...

I hope this topic is in the correct section.

I might spend a short period of time (a few months) later this year in one of these two cities.

I visited both cities during winter a couple of...

Re: warmest and driest city in the Netherlands?

I have lived in NL for 5 years and now the opportunity to leave has finally arrived - can't wait to get out. Weather is one of the reasons why I don't enjoy living here. There is not much variation...
