Re: FBU London SSA delay

I heard about been able to do that but my situation is a little different. The reason I believe is that I have been a homemaker all my life, apart from volunteering at schools, etc.

Re: FBU London SSA delay

Hi Durham Lad,
Thanks for your information. It looks like I won’t see anything this side of Christmas if your wife’s experience is anything to go by! That length of time is ridiculous. I’m...

Re: FBU London SSA delay

Hi SanDiagogirl,
It’s not a silly question at all. But getting through on the phone takes ages. Then after waiting so long I just got cut off! Decided to email them instead so now waiting for a...

Re: FBU London SSA delay

Thanks SanDiagogirl,
Glad to hear I’m not the only one then! It puts my mind at rest.
However, the FBU did interview me last November by phone and promptly returned my marriage certificate...

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced a long delay in receiving their Spousal Retirement Benefit from the SSA after making a claim through the FBU at the London Embassy?...

Re: Moving to U.K. from USA with existing loans?

I personally think it would be immoral not settle a debt before leaving. Of course if one is not able to do so then at least contact the lender to explain the situation and arrange some kind of...

Re: Reasons for returning to the UK

Karen,
We flew home with only suitcases (19), so we didn’t use a shipping company because all our baggage flew with us. It saved an awful lot of hassle with paperwork as well as knowing that all...

Re: Reasons for returning to the UK

IMO the ACA has a lot to be desired and has put so many people who earn over £64K at a great disadvantage. It segregates those who earn more, not so much a large income but more than the average,...

Re: Reasons for returning to the UK

[QUOTE=sherbert;12599200]Yes: I think for those of us in some parts of the US the cost of living, even with massively high wages, is becoming ridiculous, places are becoming overcrowded, commuting is...

Re: TOR01 or not?

No, we don’t miss it at all since we so enjoy being back in England. It was a wonderful experience and we couldn’t have found a nicer place to live. However, we plan to make frequent trips back...

Re: TOR01 or not?

The 18 + box cost $4.5k. Cheap compared to container shipping and all the organising and paperwork which goes with it.

Re: Advice on keeping UK address whilst away

We kept our bank accounts for the 25 years of been absent. We transferred the address to my parents address when we left, even though we kept our house in the UK and didn’t rent it out. I...

Re: TOR01 or not?

And BTW, we brought 8 further suitcases in a few months earlier and 4 suitcases just prior to that. Again, no ToR needed for doing so. Just get on a plane and go! All the best to you. TM

Re: TOR01 or not?

Re: Reasons for returning to the UK

My husband and I moved back earlier this year and we are loving every single minute. It feels like ‘proper’ home after been Stateside for 25 years.

Many reasons, including the British humour,...

Do you know if IRA distributions are subject to an automatic ‘withholding tax’ by the managed account broker while we’re retired living in the UK? We will be filing our 2018 US...
