Re: Changing plans from Canada to Aus?

Hi Amazulu,

Thanks for the positive feedback about WA. The amount that we could borrow etc was just done as a comparison to what sort of housing our salaries could get for us. It's definitely not...

Re: Changing plans from Canada to Aus?

We’re in no rush to make the physical move, it seems as if it’s going to be a global recession including the UK anyway. It just also seems like wasted time to not be getting on with a visa...

Re: Changing plans from Canada to Aus?

Hence asking the question on here? Hoping that people with more knowledge and experience than us can give us some helpful insight. As I said in my post, there must be a catch as it all seems too good...

Re: Changing plans from Canada to Aus?

Thanks for the advice, you’re right that it wouldn’t be out of the equation to move again but ideally we’d like the kids to be as settled as possible once they start school. Definitely have a lot to...

Re: Changing plans from Canada to Aus?

You’re exactly right I think, both options make me nervous at the moment. However I’d say that the current climate won’t make either option better / worse in the long term. Once we choose a...

Re: Changing plans from Canada to Aus?

Thanks for the advice about that. It’s definitely not our intention to max out our budget straight away, we’d probably rent for the first 12 months either way. It’s just nice to know what our wages...

Changing plans from Canada to Aus?

Hi all,

I'm completely new to the Aussie side of the forum as myself and the family had firmly decided on making the move to Calgary, Alberta. Australia has always been an option for us but now...

Re: WES / CofQ

Sorry Stumpylegs, didn't mean it as in your information was wrong. I just meant that is that how they normally do it or have you got lucky with them not noticing you're from overseas etc. After...

Re: WES / CofQ

Thanks for getting back to me again. I can't find anything online to differentiate between the two on their website so i'll look into it some more. Is what Stumpylegs said above not correct then?

Re: WES / CofQ

Thanks for the last two responses Siouxie and Stumpylegs . I did hear back from Saskatchewan who also twice confirmed that I had to be a resident in order to sit the exam. Their responses to emails...

Re: WES / CofQ

Sorry to bring back up an old thread. I'm not sure if I can tag members on here but i'm just wondering if Souxie or anyone else had any clarification on this? Thanks in advance.

Re: Budgeting for Canada

We've found some lovely properties around Medicine Hat and it seems like a great town. Work would be my only concern, there doesn't seem to be many jobs listed for my work.

Re: Budgeting for Canada

I triple checked with Sask and they made it just as clear as Alberta about having to be a resident. It's completely ruined our chances of PR through FST from the UK. We've accepted that we're just...

Re: Budgeting for Canada

At the moment we're thinking that our favourite provinces are:

1. AB
2. SK
3.MB / ON / BC

According to job bank though my best prospects are in:

1. QC (215 jobs) We don't speak any french...

Re: Budgeting for Canada

Thanks Siouxie, will take a look through those this evening and reply to the other comments above. I've been accepted to sit my trade qualifier exam in Alberta already. Unfortunately I found out...

I've been searching for within an hours drive of London, Toronto, Hamilton, Ottowa etc.

Re: Budgeting for Canada

Just another observation compared to the research i've been doing in AB. House prices in Ontario seem considerably more expensive, both to buy and rent? Or maybe i'm using the wrong websites?

Re: Budgeting for Canada

We had a trip booked to Calgary in May, obviously that's been cancelled now but we've got the flight credit back so i'll be looking to rebook as soon as this is over. Possibly not to Calgary though,...

Re: Budgeting for Canada

That's another great way to look at it thanks dbd33, if we could somehow make it work during a 'bust' scenario, then we'd be in a much better position when things inevitably pick up again.

Re: Budgeting for Canada

I was under the impression that the slightly higher wages would make up for the cost of living in Alberta. I didn't realise that the difference was quite so drastic! For me it's all about being able...

Re: Budgeting for Canada

There are some insanely beautiful acreages in Sask for under $400 and within 30-40 minutes of Saskatoon or Regina. Job prospects also seem better in Sask than AB. Not as good as BC or Ottowa though.

This may well be the proof we needed that we need to look outside of AB....
