Yes, that’s one of my regrets. I moved back to London because of familiarity and the job market but now that my kids are finally getting settled in at school they’d find the upheaval of another...

Thanks. Those exceptions do sound reasonable/plausible but I wonder how the local authority would be able to confirm. I guess the burden of proof would be on me to show that that’s what I intend to...

That wasn't the intention. Sorry. What I meant was, I became British by birthright. I was born in 1973 and my wife is Japanese. Thanks.

I was born British well before the Thatcher government rescinded citizenship by birthright. My wife is Japanese.

Dual nationality is normal in the UK but in Japan it's disallowed after (I think) the age of 21 - although I understand in practice the rule remains largely unenforced. Having lived in Japan...
