Yes, I've heard the same about Hyundai.

In my case, I've got a good deal with Ford.

Now, it's dealing with car insurance in the absence of a US driving license...

You're right - it's a trade-off. On one hand, paying it all off is cheaper, on another, having some form of financing builds credit history.
