Re: High Interest Savings Account Opened in UK

Nonsense. We have kept our current account with the Nationwide and we could certainly also have kept our savings accounts (we emptied them to buy a house and foolishly closed them).
We notified the...

Re: High Interest Savings Account Opened in UK

The OP hasn’t left the UK yet so they’re still able to open UK accounts as a UK resident.
And not all UK-based banks insist on closing any savings accounts if the person subsequently moves...

Re: Experience/advice moving back to UK

Hi Durham Lad
Yes, it’s been useful for us as non-UK residents. We have quite a bit of sterling which we want to keep in the UK in case we decide to move back soon. Until I discovered NS&I it was...

Re: Experience/advice moving back to UK

Don’t know if it’s of interest to anyone but once you have a UK current account, even if you’re living abroad you can open savings accounts with NS&I. They’ve just released new 3-year savings bonds...

Re: Miss the UK. Need advice on moving back.

I think when you grow up you’ll realize the world isn’t really interested in whom
we blame for our problems.
Do yourself a huge favour and instead of dwelling on past grievances, focus on what...

Re: Miss the UK. Need advice on moving back.

As you probably already know, Israeli citizens don’t even need a tourist visa to visit the UK. And you can stay up to 180 days.
So there’s nothing to stop you going there, other than possibly lack...

Re: Miss the UK. Need advice on moving back.

You haven’t really answered Pulaski’s questions but it sounds like you’re probably not British.

You have access to the internet so I assume you’ve already researched visas and opportunities to...

Re: GOING BACK TO THE UK-- the story continues

Well done Cator. No mean feat moving to another country later in life.
Hope you get the medical attention you need.

Re: Moving within France

My insurance company keeps telling me that too and yet every December a fresh one arrives through the post.
God knows how the flics will know but then I understand less and less these days. How do...

Re: Household bills.

Hi
I’m from NI too. Currently in France but might move to England one day.
My mum in NI has oil (not unusual there at all) and it costs her a lot less to fill her tank than it costs me here in...

Re: Moving within France

You sound very well organised DMU and I can think of no useful additions to your list. So it just remains to wish you all the best with the move. Like Tweedpipe, I’m curious which region you’re...

Re: feeling the stress getting ready to move back to the UK ( Scotland)

Long-term furnished rentals do exist but, as you’ve already seen, they tend to be few and far between.
So you’ll probably need an Airbnb for about 3 months until your furniture arrives and...

Re: feeling the stress getting ready to move back to the UK ( Scotland)

As a fellow landlord, I second this comment. I strongly suggest that - if, having spoken to letting agents in the area you’re interested in, it transpires that supply is very tight - you at least...

Can you go for a month’s holiday, just to take the pulse? That’s what we’re planning to do.
Just curious - what’s wrong with Canada?

Re: Returning to Uk

I bought a house in the UK a couple of years ago, thinking we would move back after 25 years abroad. But we still haven’t made the move and I don’t know if we ever will. We paid cash and the process...

Re: CGS/CRDS when only one spouse with Sécu

Joining the Secu would only be "free" in that, yes, we wouldn't have to pay the PUMA tax (CSM).
But it would mean I that would be liable to CGS and CRDS on my pension, which would be a really...

Re: CGS/CRDS when only one spouse with Sécu

Thanks Listen Very Carefully.
I’ll have a pension from an international org which will be treated by the Fisc as a foreign-source pension.

But the issue is more with the difference in our...

CGS/CRDS when only one spouse with Sécu

I’ve asked this question elsewhere but just wondering whether anyone here has knowledge/experience in this area.

If one spouse (me) had income (pension) and was not with the Sécu (because -...
