Thanks so much MegMac. Yes she has an SA passport and I'd much rather we apply for the birth certificate and passport in SA as you suggested. I will explore this option and ensure no random directive...

Not really as that would mean I have to register it in there name in the uk and wait a year before importing it. :)
I'm happy paying as long as it doesn't turn out to be more expensive than buying...

Thanks for your response Ed... True if I had a permanent residency. At the moment I only have temporary residency which means I don't qualify for duty-free importation of an automobile.

As you are applying based on your spouse, I don't believe your SAQA comes into the picture and as such does not need to be verified. You would have been eligible to apply for permanent residency...
