Re: How did your pets cope when you moved them back?

That is what we have found when we have been there - some things like meat - really expensive, but it is to the point here, when we stand and look at meat and then walk away. I certainly know we...

Re: How did your pets cope when you moved them back?

You should live in Florida  They still get in despite screens - if there is a crack - they get in!
Other thing here as well, like lizards, tree frogs and the occasional snake -( that doesn't...

Re: Update: 25 days and a big grin - BANKS

Well, we wouldn't have to worry about friends.
We tend to overeat when we are there as we know it will only last for a few weeks, but I think if we lived there, it wouldn't be much different than...

Re: Update: 25 days and a big grin - BANKS

You have just described the way I feel, curleytops.
We would leave family as well, but I have always said, no matter where we live - there will always be two families to miss.
Our biggest problem...

Re: How did your pets cope when you moved them back?

Me too - been wondering how they (and you) are doing.
How do you find the cost of food and the cost of living in general there now as compared to the US?

Re: How did your pets cope when you moved them back?

You can get screens built for you in the UK http://www.windowscreensuk.co.uk/
Here is on (above). Don't know if they do ones that aren't permanent as that could be a problem if you rent.
Never...

Re: How did your pets cope when you moved them back?

Don't waste your money on Feliway - just expensive and don't really think it works.
Our cats are all indoor - what concerns me is how to keep them in. I know you can get screen made in the UK for...

Re: Citizenship Question

My sentiments exactly - I said I would never become a US citizen as long as I didn't feel the same way about the US as I do England. I never have and at this point, don't think I ever will.
What is...

Re: Should I Stay or Should I Go?

I have said that many times - this is not a country to grow old in. I know my Brother -in-law would have been gone years ago if he had been living in the US. There is no way they could have...

Re: Should I Stay or Should I Go?

Well - I don't know any affluent people LOL.
But visiting and living in a place is not the same as you know. A lot if people from England think Florida is a fantastic place. Not to live that is...

Re: Should I Stay or Should I Go?

Exactly right. No-one - literally no-one in England has ever said something like that to my husband. I think it because they deal with people from other countries all the time - or really don't...

Re: Should I Stay or Should I Go?

I agree - I have never felt that I fitted in here - plus, even after after all these years, people still say "Oh, I just love hearing you talk" - that may have been ok in the beginning, but, it get's...

Re: Should I Stay or Should I Go?

England does have it's problems, but then, what country doesn't.
Having a family, I think is a big decision and not to be taken lightly when you are married to a 'non-English' citizen. Something...

Re: Update: 25 days and a big grin

No - no mushy peas - hate them:)
Just cod and chips and maybe a nice slice of crusty bread with butter :)
There may be a national shortage of cod with our without you one of these days. They had...

Re: Transferring US$ to the UK

Sorry - it is Xoom.com didn't think it looked right when I did it - is that the same one? It has been a while since we have used it.
Certainly cheaper than the banks.
That is good to know...

Re: Update: 25 days and a big grin

pps - always call those days 'Tea and Fireplace' days, even if they are few and far between (all day rain) here and 90 f and nasty humidity. Have always missed those days.
We were on holiday one...

Re: Update: 25 days and a big grin

Love rainy days - as long as I don't have to go out in them -especially driving :(
Living in Florida, we get used to thunder and lightening.

Hopefully, :fingerscrossed:we will make it one day,...

Re: Should I Stay or Should I Go?

I wholeheartedly agree - take it from one who knows. I left my family in 1966 and believe me - with the exception of the pets I have had and have, I have regretted it totally. We had, and still do,...

Re: Should I Stay or Should I Go?

I have considered becoming a citizen and even gone to their website and checked it out, I think the biggest (and stupidest) thing is thinking about the test ( forget my name and everything else) LOL....

Re: Transferring US$ to the UK

We have used Zoom in the past with no problems. Not sure if there is a limited as to how much you can send at one time though as we have only sent small amounts so far.
