Re: Wise.com - New verification Process

I've just tried to open a Wise account - absolute waste of time, I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.

When I input my email address at the start of the process all I received was an uncontrolled...

Smile Re: Barclays CLOSING ACCOUNTS for Australian residents! Need another UK account!

Apart from the fact that it takes so long to set-up (initial security check conducted from a phone box in Delhi by a non-English speaking dunce and the escalation to an equally moronic native English...

Re: Barclays CLOSING ACCOUNTS for Australian residents! Need another UK account!

Yes Jim, mine were verified instantaneously but after that everything went sh1t-shaped.

After this fiasco is over I'll contact a mate who still works in International banking and see if the...

Re: Barclays CLOSING ACCOUNTS for Australian residents! Need another UK account!

I didn't have a zoom meeting as the person who I was dealing with appeared to be in a public phone box on a main thoroughfare in India - She confirmed my details, including comparing my passport with...

Re: Barclays CLOSING ACCOUNTS for Australian residents! Need another UK account!

This is normal for a large, multi-national bank. I will now be dealt with properly, glad to have helped those who are in a similar position and amusement for the rest.

Re: Barclays CLOSING ACCOUNTS for Australian residents! Need another UK account!

I am in the process of trying to open an HSBC account - it is an absolute nightmare. Every time I call the UK I am diverted to India where an operator is in a public telephone box and cannot speak...

Re: Personal UK Pension withdrawal

Thanks Ozzie,

Yours is the best response I've received - I posted the same question in a uk forum and was just inundated with responses from "financial advisers" (snake oil salesmen) trying to...

Re: Personal UK Pension withdrawal

Re: Commonwealth Bank - be warned - charges

There appears to be absolutely no consistency to it. Another poster also had fees deducted and not shown on his statement but was given a 'tax credit' for him to present to ATO.

I have achieved...

Re: Exchange rate AUD Vs GBP £1 buys $1.83

I only saw the good news from UK stating construction at 6.5 year high. Dollar or Interest rates here will need to fall as unemployment bites. BRIC economies full of holes and that's not even...

Re: Commonwealth Bank - be warned - charges

But does it show on your bank statement? That's the issue and that's why they're under investigation by ASIC.

Re: Commonwealth Bank - be warned - charges

An update - The Banking Ombudsman is deciding if they can make a judgement on the matter; CBA do not want it to go to judgement as that will then set a precedence.

Thank-you for all posting your...

Re: Commonwealth Bank - be warned - charges

All Vic Govt authorities are designed to just pass the buck.

So far, this one has gone through ASIC -> Inst. Chart Accs -> APRA -> ASIC -> APRA -> ASIC.

Can you see the pattern? Wonder where...
