The oral, is more a safety exam and not like the normal ones we take for a ticket, have heard its more to do with experiance also, so as your new to the game prepare to be hammered:lol:

Merchant Seamen can be residents in most places, but must hold the correct certificates for his/her job depending on the vessel and where it is registered etc.

Are you Deck or Engine room ? The oral I think is only for Deck officer.

I,m an Engineer Myself and looking at going to NZ depending on Jobs etc, and changing the ticket is a simpler process.

I have had a job offer which would suit me if we did get a ITA, Its not in NZ but I,m a Merchant Navy Engieering Officer so my job tends to be at sea (Most of the time) this...
